A Baby Story...
October 2010 was the last month of my pregnancy. I figured my baby would be born early since all four of my children were early. My mama was still in Mexico and wasn't scheduled to come till the 14th. I felt that baby could come any of those days, even before her arrival. She wanted so badly to be here for the delivery. I didn't mind her missing it since I didn't feel like having an audience for my labor and delivery for the fifth time. I knew she'd be home eventually see her new grandchild. Mama got home and baby was still not here. My mom called twice daily to ask if I was ready to go or if I have felt anything. I was beginning to feel slightly irritated by everyones call or look of no baby yet? Not at the person, just at the reminder. I was waiting eagerly myself and anticipated baby would be early.
This baby was not coming! I went to my last appointment a day before my due date. I felt really good, no complaints. Though I had a small fear of going over my due date. Dr. Marotz also would be out of town the end of the week. He ask if I wanted to be induced and I agreed to that. The nurse checked the schedule and found an opening for the next morning at 4:00 AM October 26th the actual due date. That evening I spent hours finishing up things that needed to be done before baby, for our Homeschool groups annual All Saints Day Celebration. I showered and went to bed at 2:45 AM, because I am soooo good at getting my 8 hours!
So with an hour of rest we get up and head to Chandler Regional Hospital. Marty drops Beeb and I at the labor & delivery entrance. 9 year old Beeb had been wanting so badly to be there for new baby. We had even discussed the idea with Dr. Marotz 3 months prior. He suggested she'd be 16 years old to be present for L&D, so we agreed that she can be at hospital just not in room for it all.
We walk up to the nurse's desk to get checked in. I say "I am here for a sceduled induction" the nurse answers, "We'll have to get you in there quick" then nods toward Beeb and continues, "And she may not be here." So I say "o.k. my mom should be here soon." She then says "Your C-section was scheduled for 4:00AM" (As though to scold me for being late) Wait! What did she just say! I thought. I then quickly answered back defensively, "I AM NOT HAVING A C-SECTION!" The second nurse then asked my name, apologized and directed me to a L & D room down the way.

We waited a bit and met our first nurse Brooke.
She was very nice and seemed to be very attentive.
She helped finish registration and asked a long list of medical questions.
IV was set in my arm ready for pitocin to be injected.
Brooke the nice attentive nurse then announced that her shift was over.

Pitocin started at 7:00 AM
The new nurse was not as attentive as Brooke, but who needs a nurse.
She checked to see how much I was dilated at 8:00 AM - 4 or 5 was her guess.
I was zoned to my planned music. Press Play's NY to LA Song was played 4 times.
During that song I pray fervently for my God-daughter Angie. Though the pain was at a minimum my soul braced to pray for her specifically at that time, for that long.
Then I started to listen to Beckah Shae's CD's JOY and LIFE. The labor pain increased and was pretty intense. Through out that time I prayed for everyone starting with my family; parents, siblings, cousins, then I went on to my church, homeschool group and lastly to the Dr.'s and Nurses.
At 10:00 AM I opened my tightly closed eyes, to nicely kick Beeb and my mom out of the room. For the next 15 minutes I started to contemplate whether I could take the pain any longer. I then sent Marty out to fetch the not-so-attentive nurse to come and check how much longer I had to endure the gruesome pain (which I was handling gracefully).
As Marty walked out I felt the uncontrollable need to push...
I hear or feel (not sure which one) a big "whoosh!"
I then realize I am all alone in my room and... and...and...
MY BABY'S Head is out!
I throw the sheets off and reach down to hold he or she's head.
I then start screaming for "Dr. Marotz!" and "MY BABY'S HEAD IS OUT!"
Suddenly the Dr and nurses rush through the door with surprised and scared faces. They juggled to get gloves on to attend to me and my partly born baby.
Dr. Marotz rushes to break open sac that was still over baby's head. I then pushed one more time to finally hear the sweet loud cry of my new born baby. I look down my right side to see the big testicles and I realize at that moment Its a boy! and yell out to my mom at the door "ITS A BOY!"
So he was born.
An amazing labor.
A labor full of petitions and prayers to our loving and merciful God,
especially for my family and friends.
And an awesome 2-push quick delivery.
I kind of felt bad for the doctor and nurses.
I am pretty sure they felt bad themselves.
But I was fine with it.
It was a sort of gift to be alone for a minute and receive one of the greatest gifts that we receive here on earth... A precious child.

My sweet baby boy was born October 26th, 2010. He weighed 7 lbs 12oz and was 20 1/2 inches long.
